ON BEING A TEACHER
A student came in today with a lap full of new research, and in his excitement he rushed through his ideas with such speed, trying to explain what he was thinking as quickly as he was thinking it, that he almost lost his breath. He exhaled deeply when I spoke, since it was the only time he was quiet. He had uncovered something, and he was brimming with the power of what he had found through research! As he left I told him I was excited to read the paper, and he said he was excited to write it. This is the kind of moment, as a teacher, that fills you up.
